We are back from our first appointment of 2025 which has just ended successfully!
We are talking about the sixth edition of the World Ice Swimming Championships, an event organized by the International Ice Swimming Association, and which was held in Molveno from January 13th to 19th.
It’s a discipline that consists of swimming in icy waters and which is gaining more and more popularity all over the world. In short, a decidedly peculiar event, that took place in Trentino Alto-Adige, in the heart of the Dolomites.
The races took place in a 50 meter swimming pool with water at a temperature below 5 degrees.
Over the course of five days of competition, hundreds of athletes from more than 35 countries competed over various distances ranging from 50 to 1000 meters in all disciplines (freestyle, butterfly, etc.).
Although it may seem a not so attractive challenge, swimming in icy waters actually offers numerous health benefits. From the release of endorphins to increased blood circulation and a boost in body temperature, the effects are surprisingly invigorating!
